Old Computers Sucked

1993 - Building a Digitizer Card From Magazine Plans

Thumbnail for the episode on electronics

The video starts with an overview of how the electronics hobby and early home/hobby computers ties together.

The rest of the video follows the description of an ISA card described in a 1993 issue of Elektor, allowing pictures to be grabbed from a composite video source. This ISA card is described and built..

Afterwards, some software is written to interface with the card, which is then tested by grabbing images from an NES and a VHS camcorder.

Finally, an RGB converter is described and built, also from plans out of an Elektor magazine, after which I try to capture pictures recorded on my VHS camcorder.

I didn't have it when I filmed the episide, but a viewer sent in the software that would've been delivered on a diskette with the PCB. PCDIGI, for the Zeridajh PC video digitizer, diskette number ESS1831. Download here. Thank you, Pieter from the Netherlands!
